With “This Is Us” on a regularly-scheduled break, fans have been waiting ever so patiently for news on the next season and what’s ahead. We’ve heard from both Justin Hartley and Sterling K. Brown on what season 3 has in store but now, the writers of the show are sharing some details that have us prematurely sad about the show’s ending.

Dan Fogelman, one of the writers and producers of the show, recently joined some of the “This Is Us” castmembers at NBC drama’s FYC panel to discuss the show and where it’s headed— and he said they’ve already filmed portions of the series finale. Yes, you read that right. The series finale.

“We have a story to tell and we want to do this the right way,” Dan said at the panel.

While it’s not uncommon for TV shows to have a planned ending far ahead of shooting the first season, it’s hard for us to imagine a world without “This Is Us” in it— and quite honestly, we don’t even want to think about it.

Justin Hartley recently revealed that season 3 will be bigger than seasons 1 and 2 combined. Season 3 will be released this fall.
