The family of WWE star Shad Gaspard just got the news they were dreading.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that the body of Gaspard was found on Wednesday (May 20) after he went missing on Sunday (May 17) at Venice Beach, according to People. At the time of his disappearance, Gaspard was swimming with his 10-year-old son when they seemed to hit trouble in the choppy waters and a strong current. Luckily, the little boy named Aryeh was located by rescuers on Sunday (May 17) and did not require any hospitalization.

But the news was not as good for his devoted father.

After directing emergency personnel to help find his son, Gaspard was hit by a large wave and was brought under the water. Gaspard’s body has now been transferred to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

It’s a sad state of affairs for the athlete’s family, who had spent recent days praying for Gaspard’s safe return.

“We would like to express our gratitude to the first responders who rescued Aryeh and to the lifeguards, coast guard, divers, fire and police departments for their continued efforts to help find our beloved Shad,” his family said in a statement earlier in the week. “Shad is a fighter, a warrior and a magical soul,” “We are hoping and praying for his safe return. As a family we thank you all for your concern and well wishes. Please continue to keep sending your positivity and prayers to our beloved Shad.”
