If you watch “The View,” you may have noticed that Whoopi Goldberg has been missing from the table with her co-hosts Joy Behar, Abby Huntsman, Sunny Hostin and Meghan McCain, for weeks.
Fans began to wonder what was going on. While Joy kept informing fans that Whoopi was sick and would return when she was better, she never shared an explanation of what was actually keeping the 63-year-old away. And she never let on how serious it was, until now.
On the latest episode of “The View” on Friday (March 8), Whoopi was well enough to prepare a video, letting fans know what was going on with her health.
“I am here. I am up and moving around, not as fast as I’d like to be. I’m OK. I’m not dead,” Whoopi began the video. “Here’s what happened. I had pneumonia and I was septic—pneumonia in both lungs, which meant there was fluid and there was all kinds of stuff going on. And yes, I came very very close to leaving the earth. Good news, I didn’t.
Whoopi added a little bit of levity in the big news when thanking the fans for their well wishes and kind words.
“Thank you for all of your good wishes and all of the wonderful things people have been saying, even people who are not huge fans of mine have actually said nice things about me,” she continued. “We all know that’s going to change when I get back but for right now it’s brilliant. Thank you for everything. This has been interesting and I’ll tell you about when we’re all at the table.”
The Ghost actress ended her message by blowing a kiss “to everybody.” We wish Whoopi a speedy recovery.
