Will Smith turned 50 in 2018 and celebrated his birthday by jumping out of a helicopter and bungee-jumping into the Grand Canyon to conquer his fear. Sounds reasonable right? Well, the actor went on to conquer another fear that many people have, undergoing a colonoscopy.
And if you have to get a colonoscopy, why not vlog about it? That’s exactly what Will did in a video on Youtube. The Grammy winner also posted a pre-op video on Instagram saying, “They said you can’t get to 50 million followers on IG without showing your butt. So here I am, gettin’ a colonoscopy for the clout.”
At the time of this post Will Smith has 39.7 million followers.
In the video, Will reveals that it’s 6 am and he’s in Miami for the procedure. He then talks with his doctor, Dr. Ala Stanford, who told him he needed to get the colonoscopy.
“‘Cause I’m 50, so people need to look up my stuff,” he joked.
Then it was time for the procedure, which Will was put under anesthesia for the Colonoscopy. When he wakes up, he’s all smiles for the camera before falling asleep again.
“I haven’t done many drugs in my life, so, this stuff works on me really well,” he said. “I feel like I have to poop. Do I have to poop? Or was there a camera up my a** that’s giving me the sensation?”
After all was said and done, Will then showed the conference call between he and his doctor, who revealed the results.
“When he got to the part which is the largest part of your colon there was a polyp there. A polyp is a pre cancerous lesion,” Dr. Stanford said. “He removed it and he sent it to the lab. The results came back that it was a tubular adenoma which is pre-cancer tissue. Ninety five percent of colon cancers arise from that type of polyp that was in your colon. ”
The doctor then thanked Will for being a compliant patient because screening and early detection saves lives. Had he not taken care of the polyp it would have continued to grow and turned into full blown colon cancer.
We’re glad they got it when they did.
