While we all love good trip to the beauty salon for professional hair treatments, sometimes the pocketbook just doesn’t allow it. But guess what? You can try these at-home solutions and get near professional results!

Here are 12 Foods You Can Put in Your Hair:

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

If you are looking to remove product buildup from your tresses, this is all you need! Use monthly for shine and volume, just make sure you rinse well. No one wants to be mistaken for a salad.

2. Champagne

Okay, so this more of a drink than food, but it still works to redefine those natural highlights. Just rinse with it after washing. Obviously, this is not time to bust out the hoity-toity bottle.

3. Mayonnaise

Soften your hair with mayo. After you wash hair, apply mayonnaise and cover with a shower cap for 20 minutes. Also, if you are Southern, only Dukes will do.

4. Ketchup

Who knew condiments weren’t only for food? Apply ketchup to blond hair to remove the green tint caused by chlorine. Just let it sit for 20 minutes and then wash with a gently shampoo.

5. Avocado

If you want shiny hair, simply mash up some avocado and apply to hair. Let sit 20 minutes then wash as normal.

6. Honey and Olive Oil

This combination is perfect for a deep treatment. Mix 1/4 cup honey with 1/4 cup olive oil and apply to hair.

7. Yogurt

Want a long, flowing main? Massage a pint of plain yogurt into your scalp and let sit for 15 minutes. The lactic acid will remove dead skin cells allowing hair to grow faster.

8. Coconut Oil

No need for pricey oils, a little coconut oil will do the trick and help prevent split ends.

9. Cornstarch

If you need something to soak up the oiliness and you are out of dry shampoo? Reach for this instead! Shake a little onto your roots and then shake out.

10. Eggs

Whip an egg (or more as needed) and apply to hair. Wrap it up in a towel and let sit for 15 minutes. Rinse well with lukewarm water. Believe it or not, hot water could cook the egg!

11. Tea

Deepen your brunette with brewed tea. Simply rinse through hair after washing.

12. Bananas

Another deep conditioning treatment, simply puree (this is important!) bananas then apply to hair and let sit 15 minutes. Rinse and your done!
