Meryl Streep Met Anna Wintour and Really Channeled Her “Devil Wears Prada” Character

-

In 2006, Meryl Streep took on the role of Miranda Priestly in “The Devil Wears Prada,” which was based on a book written by Lauren Weisberger. The book is largely based on Weisberger’s time at Vogue working under editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Streep’s character was basically Wintour.

To prepare for her upcoming in “The Post,” Streep took to New York City and the Vogue offices to meet with Wintour and things got off to a really interesting start.

Wintour: “Obviously, you’ve played a lot of extraordinary women. What was the most challenging woman you’ve ever played?”

Streep: “Hmm. Oh! I should say … ”

Wintour: “No, no, we’re not going there, Meryl.”

It was quite the conversation.

No wonder Wintour didn’t want to go there. Remember?
