Jimmy Kimmel is known for his sarcastic and upbeat demeanor on late night television but since the birth of his son, Billy, he has become more pointed towards a singular political issue: child health care. Kimmel’s son was born with a hole in his heart wall and a blocked valve. His son went through successful emergency surgery and has been doing well ever since. In an recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kimmel revealed that his son will need two more surgeries in the near future to aid his recovery.

“He’s doing great,” Kimmel said. “Young Billy made his first visit to our office today. He’s juggling. He’s translating Flaubert from French into English. He’s really an amazing kid. No — he smiles. That’s pretty much it. He is very interested in ceiling fans. He likes those a lot.”

The welcome and exciting news of his recovery was mixed with anxiety, as Kimmel added, “He has to have two more open heart surgeries. We would like to get them over with and not have to think about it all the time, but it could definitely be worse.”

Olympic snowboarder and X-Games phenom Shaun White was born with the same heart condition as Billy and had three surgeries to repair his heart. On the May 2 episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” the gold medalist had some kind and encouraging words of Kimmel as he looked ahead to the long road of recovery.

Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the Kimmel family.
