Ashley Gorley Has Written 35 No.1 Singles and Is Still Surprised to Hear His Songs on the Radio

It was a historic night for Nashville songwriter Ashley Gorley at the 55th Annual ASCAP Country Awards. For the fourth consecutive year and fifth time overall the hit-maker was named Songwriter of the Year.

Before accepting the award we asked Gorley what it was like to be honored with the award for the fifth time and he said it’s always a surprise, but he also said it’s a surprise every single time he hears one of his songs on the radio– a guy with 35 No. 1 hits in his career (and countless other cuts and Top 10 hits) is still surprised to hear his songs on the radio? Yes.

“It’s always surprising, you can sense throughout the year how many songs you have out, so you can kind of figure out if you’re maybe in the running for it…it’s always surprising that people keep recording these things…they’re all surprising every time we hear them on the radio, I’m like ‘whoa, I can’t believe someone recorded this.'”
