In more than one interview since announcing new music, Carrie Underwood has emphatically said fans should not be expecting many “mommy songs” from her. So far, we definitely believe her. “Smoke Break” isn’t a mommy song and the only “mommy” thing about the new video is that Carrie is a mom and she stars in the video.
Carrie told “Entertainment Tonight,” about the video, “For the storyline, I really just wanted it to be mainly about strong women — strong beautiful women who are doing everything that the boys do. And at the end, we all get together and have our break. Hardworking during the front-end of the video and having our break, our ‘Smoke Break,’ at the end of the video.”
Carrie plays a hard-working, guitar-toting, boot-wearing woman with an old truck who makes her way to a gig despite truck troubles.
“Smoke Break” is the first single from Underwood’s fifth album, Storyteller, set for release on October 23.
