One listen to any track on Kelsea Ballerini‘s debut album, The First Time, and you know she’s a confident, progressive, optimist singer-songwriter. You can almost hear her bouncing while singing her latest single, “Dibs.” She possesses a star-quality like few other women in country music and it’s hard not to root for her, but is she country music’s Beyonce? One important person thinks so.
During a recent interview with Rolling Stone Country, Ballerini told the magazine about one of her producers, Forest Glen Whitehead, looking to produce a country Beyonce, “He was telling the publisher, ‘I want to produce a country Beyoncé.’ And he told me, ‘The first time I wrote with you, I knew that’s who you are. I have to produce you.'”
Whitehead produced and co-wrote Ballerini’s debut single, the chart-topping and history-making, “Love Me Like You Mean It,” but Beyonce?
Studying both artists’ bodies of work, here’s the only way I can get there:
Ballerini and Beyonce both have songs titled, “XO.”
Ballerini’s is a breakup-ish song, Beyonce’s is a love song. You can definitely sing along to both.
The hair? Flawless.
How this has never come up before is beyond me.
If you’ve got it, flaunt it. Or if you can be anything like Beyonce, be like Beyonce.
Taylor Swift connection.
Even Beyonce knows that you can’t turn down a Taylor Swift party invite.
I didn’t see it before, but you know what? Maybe Kelsea Ballerini is the Beyonce of country music. Who run the world? Girls. Specifically, Beyonce and Kelsea Ballerini. (And Taylor Swift.)
