Country music has been missing a strong female duo presence since Wynonna Judd parted ways from her mother and The Judds in the early ’90s. The Wreckers had a brief moment in the spotlight a few years ago, but as good as they were it was more of a “project” for pop star Michelle Branch to try out. Country music needed (and still needs) Maddie & Tae. Their energy, fearless attitude and dedication to pure, real country music is going to be what keeps these two around for a long, long time. Like, they’ll be around so long we might even forget about “Girl In a Country Song.” Just kidding– we won’t ever forget that song.
During a recent appearance on The Bobby Bones show, the CMA-Nominated Vocal Duo of the Year paid tribute to the ones that came before them by playing The Judds hit, “Have Mercy.” Everything about it was perfect.
As their single “Fly” crests the Top 5, Maddie & Tae are proving that smart songs by young women have a place in today’s country music. They are also nominated for New Artist of The Year and Best Video at the 49th Annual CMA Awards where they will be performing as well.
